Ukraine doesn’t have a proper Navy.
But it has been able to land some significant blows on Russian naval assets - including the sinking of Black Sea Feet flagship - Moskva.
A new one has now been added to the tally - Ivanovets.
During the night of January 31 to February 1, 2024, a daring operation conducted by Group 13 of the special intelligence unit of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense took out the Russian Black Sea Fleet's corvette Ivanovets. The attack took place at the roadstead of Lake Donuzlav in Crimea, which is currently occupied by Russia.
The Ukrainian Military Intelligence Directorate (GRU) announced that it has carried out this operation using a group of unmanned boats.
As per preliminary information, the search and rescue operation was unsuccessful.
It’s possible that all 50 or so sailors aboard the vessel have lost their lives.

It is being termed a Long Range Anti Ship Hypersonic Missile (LRAShM) given the absence of any other known nomenclature for the missile family.
The government added, "The flight data ... confirmed the successful terminal maneuvers and impact with high degree of accuracy”.
The test-firing took place from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam island off the eastern coast of Odisha state
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called the test a "historic achievement" in a post on X and congratulated “DRDO, armed forces, and industry for stupendous achievement”.

The target was a key infrastructure - Pivdenmash, formerly Yuzhmash.
Pivdenmash produces spacecraft, launch vehicles (rockets), liquid-propellant rockets, landing gears, castings, forgings, tractors, tools, and industrial products. The company is headquartered in Dnipro and reports to the State Space Agency of Ukraine. It works with international aerospace partners in 23 countries.
The strike package included 6 Kh-101 cruise missiles, one Kinzhal hypersonic missile, and an unknown missile which was later designated as - Oreshnik.
A US official confirmed, “The United States was pre-notified briefly before the launch”. It was done since it could have been mistaken for a nuclear strike.

,1,The US has reached a crucial milestone.
According to the Missile Defense Agency., the Defense Department’s advanced missile tracking satellites logged their first views of a hypersonic flight test.
Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS) satellites were able to track a hypersonic system.
MDA didn’t disclose the date of the flight, which took off from Wallops Island in Virginia.
The agency said in a June 14 statement, “Initial reports show the sensors successfully collected data after launch. MDA will continue to assess flight data over the next several weeks.”
Viewers may note, that the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and Space Development Agency (SDA) are actively working on components of a hypersonic missile defense system to protect against hypersonic weapons and other emerging missile threats. This includes developing the tracking and transport layers of the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA) and various interceptor programs.

Netanyahu is the latest Israeli official to criticize the International Court of Justice hearing being held in Hauge, South Africa, where members of the World Court are hearing the case against the Jewish State’s war in Gaza and the civilian cost.
The Israeli leader accused South Africa of “brazen gall” for representing the “monsters” of Hamas by bringing the allegations to court.
“A terrorist organization carried out the worst crime against the Jewish People since the Holocaust, and now someone comes to defend it in the name of the Holocaust,” Netanyahu said in a statement. “What brazen gall. The world is upside down.”
Netanyahu added: “South Africa’s hypocrisy screams to the high Heavens. Where was South Africa when millions of people were being murdered and uprooted from their homes in Syria and Yemen, by whom? By Hamas’s partners.
