The House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol has revealed new details about former President Donald Trump's efforts to pressure the Justice Department to help him stay in power after he lost the 2020 election. In the committee's fifth televised public hearing Thursday, former top DOJ officials testified about how Trump urged the department to seize voting machines and declare the election results corrupt. One of the former top DOJ officials who testified was Trump's former acting Deputy Attorney General Richard Donoghue, who described a phone conversation with President Trump in which he tried to reject his repeated false claims. Donoghue also discussed how he and others were pushed to investigate a baseless conspiracy theory that an Italian defense contractor had hacked a satellite, switching votes from Trump to Biden.

,1,In New York, we speak with Rashid Khalidi, author of The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine, who lays out how this weekend’s extreme violence between Hamas and Israel will force “a paradigm shift.” Colonial powers will no longer believe they can force people to live under the conditions Israel has subjected Palestinians to and expect no retaliation of the oppressed, says Khalidi. “That idea has exploded as a result of the horrific events over the past two-and-a-half days,” says Khalidi, who calls the blockade of Gaza “a pressure cooker. It had to explode.” In response to the escalated conflict, the U.S. promised Israel would have “what it needs to defend itself,” pledging more military aid and munitions to Israel, already the largest annual recipient of U.S. military funding, as the Biden administration moved warships toward Israel. “We finance this occupation. We finance this violence,” says Khalidi, who calls on Biden to defuse the situation instead of escalating it. “You cannot make peace over the bodies of Palestinians.”

By Saturday, Wagner troops had returned to base, and Prigozhin had agreed to exile in Belarus, while Putin denounced the episode as "treason." Khrushcheva, a professor of international affairs at the New School and the great-granddaughter of former Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev, says that while Putin has reasserted his control over the state for now, the episode "didn't really show him in a strong light."

The Hoover Project on China’s Global Sharp Power held an event titled: Industrial Policy Uncertainty in China on Friday, December 8, 2023 at 12:00 pm PT.
Will China maintain its comparative advantage in industrial policy? State-led investment boosts competitiveness today, but the long-run sustainability of this model depends crucially on policy efficiency. In this talk, Andrew Sinclair presented his work using a comprehensive dataset of all industrial policy announcements by China's State Council from 2008 to 2022 to find that policy uncertainty introduces a shadow financial cost that substantially reduces the efficiency of Chinese industrial policy. Industrial policies increase firm value, but investors heavily discount the value of future support because of the risk that policies may abruptly and arbitrarily change.

I refer to my letter of 20 September 2024 calling on the government to immediately suspend the use of Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19 products due to the evidence of significant synthetic DNA contamination, as detailed in Dr. David Speicher’s report.
Unlike the Thalidomide tragedy, which resulted in over 10,000 victims globally, the Covid-19 vaccines have been administered to more than 20 million Australians, totalling over 63 million doses. The contamination detected in these vaccines, if not addressed, presents a substantial risk, with the potential for these dangers - such as genomic integration and potential long-term health impacts - to multiply with each additional dose administered. Immediate action through a suspension of these products is critical to mitigate further risk.
To assist in adopting a precautionary approach and minimizing further harm, I enclose a Science Summary created and endorsed by eminent Australian and international scientists and medical experts. The summary reinforces the known and potential dangers of DNA contamination and highlights the need for an urgent and independent investigation. As advised by the co-signatories, the Department of Health and Aged Care has produced no evidence to demonstrate why the detected DNA contamination will not produce the dire adverse health outcomes detailed in the Science Summary.
Additionally, I have reason to believe that multiple attempts by prominent scientists to warn the TGA of these risks have been disregarded since early 2021, raising serious questions about the agency's ability to protect the health and well-being of Australians.
Finally, I draw your attention to the Biosecurity Act 2015, which may now be relevant. Given the contamination evidence, I recommend the Minister for Agriculture initiate a Biosecurity Import Risk Analysis of these products, potentially leading to the suspension of these products due to the risks they pose to human health.
I gratefully acknowledge the assistance of the 52 co-signatories below in the preparation of this letter and reiterate my call seeking your urgent action to ensure the safety of all Australians.

,1,Tech billionaire Elon Musk has predicted that artificial intelligence (AI) will eventually mean that no-one will have to work.
He was speaking to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak during an unusual "in conversation" event at the end of this week's summit on AI at Bletchley Park, in England.
The 50-minute interview included a prediction by Mr Musk that the tech will make paid work redundant.
This comes as around 100 world leaders, tech bosses and academics are gathering there over the next two days to discuss how best to maximise the benefits of artificial intelligence - while minimising the risks.
