,1,Out of control wildfires consumed homes in the central Valparaiso region of Chile on Friday (February 2) night, burning through thousands of hectares.
According to Chile's national forestry body CONAF, some 7,000 hectares in Valparaiso alone have been burned. Throughout the country there were at least 158 reported wildfires as of Friday evening.
High temperatures and strong winds have been blamed for fanning the wildfires, with firefighters facing down massive flames as they tried to keep blazes away from homes.
According to local media, preliminary reports claim about 1,000 homes have been damaged. At least ten people have died in forest fires in Chile, AFP reported early on Saturday (February 3), citing officials.

,1,Marshall told reporters on Friday that asphyxiation by nitrogen, the first new execution method since lethal injections began in the U.S. in 1982, is "no longer an untested method."
He added that 43 other people on death row had chosen asphyxiation over lethal injections since lawmakers approved the method in 2018.
"Alabama has done it, and now so can you, and we stand ready to assist you in implementing this method in your states," Marshall said.
Alabama called the new method "humane," while human rights groups condemned it as cruel and torturous.
Asked about the execution, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called it "troubling" and pointed to President Joe Biden's support for U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland's moratorium on the federal death penalty, pending review of the policies and procedures governing its use.

,1,THE suspect accused of murdering and beheading his father and showing off his head during an unhinged right-wing rant on YouTube bought a gun the day before the alleged crime, police have revealed.
Justin Mohn, 32, was arrested on Tuesday after his mother, Denice Mohn, called 911 to report finding her husband decapitated and covered in blood at their home.
In a press conference on Friday, police said that Justin Mohn, 32, bought a 9mm handgun in Croydon, Pennsylvania, near the family's house in Levittown, north of Philadelphia.
Police confirmed the gun, taken at the time of arrest, was missing a single round.
Cops also said that the victim, Michael Mohn, 68, was shot in the head before he was beheaded with a knife and machete.
Justin was of clear mind and had no history of mental illness, according to police.
Police also confirmed that Mohn had previously worked at Microsoft, but was currently unemployed.
Mohn was arrested nearly 100 miles from the crime scene at the Fort Indiantown Gap in Pennsylvania.
Justin's mother arrived home Tuesday evening to find her husband's body and ran to neighbors to call the police.
Middletown Township police responded to the call around 7 pm.
Upon entering the home, they found Michael's body in the first-floor bathroom and his head was inside a plastic bag in a kitchen pot placed in a first-floor bedroom.
They also found bloody rubber gloves, a machete, and a large kitchen knife in the bathtub.
