The Supreme Court heard a case today on whether the Food and Drug Administration unlawfully blocked the sale of some vaping products. The agency has denied more than a million applications of candy or fruit flavored products as part of wider crackdown saying they appeal too much to kids. But vaping companies say the FDA unfairly disregarded arguments that those flavors can help adults quit smoking without increased risk to kids.

Claudia Maraston is the UK's top ranked female physicst. She is a Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Portsmouth.
Claudia obtained her PhD in Astrophysics at the University of Bologna, leading to post-doctoral fellowships at the Ludwig-Maximillian University of Munich and the Max-Planck Institute for extra-terrestrial physics (MPE) in Garching (Germany). She was awarded a Marie-Curie fellowship in 2005 which she spent at the University of Oxford, before joining the University of Portsmouth in 2007 as the recipient of the Marie-Curie Excellence Team Grant.
Claudia designs models for the calculation of spectro-photometric evolution of stellar populations, which are used as a tool to study galaxy formation and evolution both theoretically and through data interpretation. She is the winner of the 2018 Royal Astronomical Society Eddington Medal.

Vitamin D plays a crucial role in the infection or in ameliorating the severity of symptoms.
VDD is associated with increased hospitalization of severely ill patients and increased levels of COVID-19-caused mortality.
The mechanism of action of vitamin D and vitamin D deficiency (VDD) is well understood.
Vitamin D levels and genetic variations in the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene significantly impact the severity and out- comes of COVID-19,
especially in the infections caused by Delta and Omicron variants.
Furthermore, VDD causes immune system dysregulation upon infection with SARS-CoV-2,
indicating that vitamin D sufficiency is crucial in fighting against COVID-19 infection.

Levels below 12 ng/mL indicate severe deficiency.
Levels between 12 and 20 ng/mL suggest deficiency

Recommended prophylactic dose
0–1 years, 400 IU/day (10 mcg)
over 1 year, 600 IU (15 mcg)
over 8 years, half an adult dose

,1,The US military has launched scores of air strikes against targets used by Iran-linked militias in Syria and Iraq. The strikes come days after the US Secretary of Defense said the President "will not tolerate" attacks on US troops.
The Pentagon said that the airstrikes occurred over a period of about 30 minutes and targeted three facilities in Iraq and four in Syria. The attacks took place around midnight local time in what is being called as the first of multiple attacks against the groups.
US President Joe Biden said that the strikes were carried out “at my direction”, adding that targets used by IRGC and affiliated militia were struck.
